Dear LGS Students,
Last week you received two important messages that require your action, if you are on campus now, and if you plan to be on campus this fall term.
If you are planning to be on campus for any activity this fall term, whether for in-person classes, conducting research, and/or planning to use any on-campus facility or on-campus resource this fall, including libraries, computing facilities, and/or other support resources or services, you are required to complete an onboarding clearance process, which includes COVID-19 testing.
Please read this message carefully, and follow up with action where needed.
COVID-19 TESTING. Student Health Services is scheduling COVID-19 testing for all students. As stated above, testing is required for all students planning to be on campus for any amount of time, at all, this fall term. If you were tested by Student Health Services earlier this summer, you do not have to be tested again. Students who were tested by Student Health Services and wish to be tested again may also schedule an appointment as per below.
You may view the message about testing here and schedule your test here.
ONBOARDING CLEARANCE PROCESS. The other message you received last week is about the required onboarding clearance process. To ensure the safety of the Emory community, students who plan to be on campus for any amount of time are required to follow the University’s newly implemented onboarding process. The announcement, sent by Emory Forward, is below for your follow up. The link to the onboarding clearance process is also here.
Thank you for all your contributions to health and safety at Emory during this time of pandemic.
Stay well, and stay masked!

Dear Emory students,
Emory University has established a comprehensive clearance process for students who plan to be on the Atlanta and Oxford campuses this fall. This new set of guidelines will help ensure our community’s safety as we access campus during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our campus is open to anyone who plans to take in-person classes or assigned on-campus housing for fall 2020. Campus is also open to any enrolled student living in the Atlanta area who plans to be on campus for any reason, including meetings with advisors or counselors, or use of libraries, or computing facilities, or dining venues.
It is imperative that everyone understands what is expected when on campus to ensure we are doing our part to keep our community safe. We have prepared a seven-step onboarding clearance process for all students to complete PRIOR to coming to campus. If you are planning to return to campus for any amount of time this fall, you are required to complete the clearance process. If you are not planning to return to campus at any time during the fall term, you DO NOT need to complete this clearance process.
The onboarding clearance process can be accessed through the Emory Forward website beginning Monday, August 3, 2020. To be cleared for access to campus, students will complete the following seven steps:
1. EMORY STUDENT COMMUNITY COMPACT: Students will review and indicate their commitment to the new expectations and guidelines for the campus environment during the COVID-19 pandemic.
2. HEALTH AND SAFETY TRAINING COURSE: Students will complete a required training module for physical distancing, face covering requirements, other personal protective equipment, hygiene, self-monitoring for symptoms, and other important health and safety guidelines for returning to campus. Additional training may be needed for some students based on the school of enrollment.
3. A HEALTH ASSESSMENT: Students will complete a confidential health screening questionnaire that includes questions about exposure to COVID-19, contact with persons who have tested positive, travel, and symptoms.
4. EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION CONTACT: Students will enroll in Emory’s Emergency Notification System and ensure their mobile phone numbers are current. Mobile numbers will be used for COVID-19 contact tracing in the event that a student is exposed to COVID-19.
5. CONTACT TRACING: Students will provide a baseline list of close contacts with whom they regularly encounter at Emory for the purpose of effective contact tracing in the event of COVID-19 exposure. A close contact is defined by the CDC as anyone within 6 feet for 15 minutes or more.
6. COVID-19 TESTING: COVID-19 testing will be required for all students planning to return to campus. Individual schools will direct students to schedule their on-campus test appointments as closely as possible to their return to campus arrival dates.
7. IMMUNIZATION RECORD: If immunization records are not yet on file with Student Health Services, students will upload immunization documents and submit their dates into the Student Health Patient Portal. Immunizations that require a series of vaccinations can be completed after arrival to Emory.
Once students have completed all required steps, they will receive a confirmation email stating they are cleared for campus activities.
If your return to campus includes research activities in laboratories or in research settings that include human participants or animals, you may have additional guidelines and procedures that require knowledge about protocols in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Please visit:
• The Emory Institutional Review Board • The Emory Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee • The Emory Environmental Health and Safety Office • The Emory Office of Research Administration
Thank you in advance for your adherence to the onboarding clearance process. We look forward to seeing you on campus in just a few weeks.
Sincerely,
Jan Love, Interim Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs
