Subject: Updates to Emory Policies for Students Admitted for Fall 2020
New Students,
We hope this email finds you well, and that your preparations to join us for fall term of 2020 are going well.
Recently you received an Emory University message from President Claire Sterk and President-elect Greg Fenves. If you have not received it, you can find that message here .
We know that for some of you, the fall term preparations are made difficult by the continuing development of the COVID-19 pandemic. If you are in that situation, you may be interested in two updated policies for new students:
Deferred Enrollment: LGS is providing more flexibility around deferred enrollment, allowing deferrals for one or two terms and extending the deadline for requesting deferred enrollment. The updated policy is on {our deferred enrollment web page} and applies to all new students.
Funding: LGS is adjusting our usual policy on funding for PhD students who are unable to travel to the U.S. in time for the start of fall term and have the option of enrolling remotely. The adjusted policy is on a new COVID-19 Updates web page and applies to students who are currently outside the U.S., and are unable to enter the U.S. in time for the start of fall term, August 19.
If you are facing difficulties preparing to join us for the fall, please consider these updated policies and discuss your options with your program. In all cases if you are interested in deferring, the options should be discussed with your program.
The dynamic and uncertain development of the COVID-19 pandemic creates extraordinary and ever-shifting constraints and uncertainty. We hope that we will be able to welcome all of you to the Laney Graduate School – for the start of fall term, or in a future term, as conditions improve, and obstacles are resolved.
If you have questions about these policies or other items, please contact us at laneygs@emory.edu .
Stay safe and healthy, and connected to loved ones.
Warmest regards and best wishes,
Lisa A. Tedesco, Ph.D. Vice Provost for Academic Affairs – Graduate Studies Dean, James T. Laney School of Graduate Studies Professor, Rollins School of Public Health
