Student Spotlight: Innovating Real-World Solutions for Intricate Technology Problems
Class of 2025 graduate Vishwanath Seshagiri earned his PhD in computer science and informatics from Laney Graduate School. Before attending Emory, Seshagiri obtained his bachelor’s degree in engineering from the College of Engineering, Guindy in Chennai, India.
His educational background and experiences led him to develop his research thesis “The Whole Nine-Nine Yard: Observability for the Observers,” which uses artificial intelligence (AI) to bridge the gap between those who collect logs — records of events that occur within a system, application or network — and those who create logs.
“With my thesis, we have effectively built a ‘ChatGPT for Log Search’ that can take logs from various sources and provide them to developers. By reducing the time spent searching logs, my work would reduce developers’ debugging time, making them more productive,” says Seshagiri.

Don’t Provide Money or Information to Scammers!
The Emory University Police Department is seeing an increase in scams targeting international students.
Common Scam Tactics:
- Threatening calls pretending to be from immigration or the FBI
- Requests to meet in private regarding immigration status
- Demands to turn over phones or give financial account access
- Fake job offers, concert tickets, or emails from advisors
How to Protect Yourself:
- Stay calm and verify
- Scammers create urgency—don’t rush.
- Never share personal info like your SSN or bank details.
- Don’t act alone
- If someone asks to meet with you in person, suggest Emory Police Department (EPD) as the location. If they refuse, it’s a scam.
- If you're uncomfortable going to the police, ask a trusted faculty/staff member or ISSS advisor to go with you.
