Learning About Laney plays a vital role in attracting the best and brightest future scholars to Laney Graduate School. Now in its seventh year, this fully funded preview visitation program offers prospective graduate students an immersive introduction to the academic, cultural, and community life at Emory.
The program aims to welcome scholars from a broad range of backgrounds, identities, perspectives, and experiences. Participants will engage in curated workshops, meet faculty and current scholars, and gain valuable insight into what it means to thrive as a graduate student at a top-tier research institution. This initiative has consistently attracted talented students, many of whom go on to apply, enroll, and become leaders within our programs.
As we prepare to welcome a new cohort of scholars for the 2025 visit this September, we are calling on the Laney community to help us identify the next wave of promising applicants. Staying Authentic in Your Fellowship Application while Aligning with Current Directives

Applying for federal funding can be daunting, especially in these times when you are seeking to craft a compelling personal or career statement that stays true to your voice while aligning with evolving federal guidelines.
With the August 8, 2025, NIH deadline approaching, many graduate students and postdoctoral fellows—particularly those in the sciences—are grappling with how to navigate sensitive language and stand out in a competitive funding landscape.

Connecting with Your Future Professor: A Practical Guide
Laney PhD students Swat Rajwal and Avinash Kumar Pandey recently published a piece in XRDS: The ACM Magazine for Students titled “Connecting with Your Future Professor: A Practical Guide.” The article is focused on years of trial and error in the academic world, figuring out how to approach faculty, build research relationships, and navigate mentorship. They wrote the article hoping their reflections could be a practical, honest resource for other graduate students facing the same uncertainty, specifically early on in their graduate journey.

Emory College Academic Success under the Office for Undergraduate Education, is seeking a Graduate Assistant to support the coordination, communication, and development of its peer-led academic support program. Programs include Learning Assistance, Peer Tutoring, Academic Coaching and Accountability Groups.
The Graduate Assistant will help strengthen the programs’ operations, student engagement, and campus partnerships through data management, mentoring support, and outreach.

Join the LGS Student Flourishing Team!
Laney Graduate School Student Affairs Office is hiring a Student Ambassador to support the new LGS Student Flourishing Initiative. The ambassador will assist in planning, executing, and evaluating events and programs aligned with the three LGS pillars: Pathways to Success, Purpose and Well-being, and Community and Belonging. Help plan events, develop new initiatives, and engage your peers in building community, academic, and career success, as well as promoting overall well-being.
Qualifications:
- Current LGS graduate student in good academic standing
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Interest in student development, community engagement, and wellness
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Experience with event planning, peer mentoring, and student leadership
Schedule and Compensation:
- Flexible hours: 5–10/week
- Hybrid work
- Great experience + $500 a month stipend
