Dear LGS Community,
I write to connect with you and add my voice to other Emory leadership voices recognizing these unsettling and disturbing times.
As we continue to navigate the personal, professional, and academic disruptions of COVID-19, we face the ongoing history and crises of racial injustice. The tragic deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd, and others before them, known and unknown to the public, are harsh realities of the inequities that continue in our nation.
Sadly, we recognize that many within our community experience various forms of racism daily, and the current events over the past few weeks increase anguish. I want to emphasize that you are not alone. LGS remains committed to fostering an inclusive, respectful, and diverse community where everyone feels a sense of belonging and where our many differences are seen and appreciated as strengths.
On June 5 at 4 pm, Campus Life and the Office of Spiritual and Religious Life will hold an online solidarity vigil in remembrance of victims of racial violence. Creative Writing Professor and Pulitzer Prize winner Jericho Brown will offer a reading, and the entire Emory community is invited to join.
We recognize that coping with events like this and the global pandemic are challenging, to say the least. We care deeply about your mental health and well-being and encourage you to use University counseling resources available for all students, faculty, and staff.
As always, we are here for you. Below is a list of LGS leadership team members with responsibilities in specific areas:
Together, we will forge our better path forward. Stay strong, stay safe, stay hopeful.
With care, with you, -Lisa
