Emory University Collective Bargaining Update
Emory University and SEIU Workers United, Southern Region Local 29, held a productive collective bargaining session on August 14.
The Union presented amended proposals on visa and work authorization, workspace, parking and transportation, discipline and discharge, and the academic vs. employment appendix.
The University presented amended proposals on workplace safety, health insurance, leave, discipline and discharge, and the academic vs. employment appendix.
The Parties reached a tentative agreement on academic integrity, professionalism, and research misconduct.
The next session will take place on August 28. Updates will be provided in the Grad Report as negotiations progress.

On-Campus Social Security Administration Day for International Students
ISSS is hosting its annual campus visit by the Social Security Administration (SSA). Representatives from the local SSA office will be in the North Decatur Building, accepting applications for social security numbers from eligible Emory international students.
Who can apply? Emory F-1 and J-1 students who:
- Receive a service-based stipend from Emory,
- Have an on-campus job offer, or
- Need an SSN denial letter to apply for a Georgia driver's license, state ID, or ITIN.
Are appointments needed?
Yes, students must register for either the morning block or afternoon block in advance of August 22.
What documents are needed?
Faculty, help your students by:
- Encouraging them to review the ISSS website here.
- Issue their on-campus employment letter (again, with wet signature) in advance.
- Advising them to request an ISSS Social Security Letter or On-Campus Employment Authorization through ISSS link at least five business days prior to August 22.

Make Your Writing Plan For The Semester - Online Workshop
Set your fall writing plan in motion. This online workshop will guide graduate students in developing a personalized writing plan for the semester, tailored to their individual goals, priorities, and available time.
Participants will learn strategies to manage distractions, reduce anxiety around focus and productivity, and create the space needed to sustain momentum. The session will also highlight approaches to re-energize intellectual work and reconnect with the intrinsic rewards and pleasures of writing.

Christine Mirzayan Science and Technology Policy Graduate Fellowship Program
Launched in 1997, the Christine Mirzayan Science & Technology Policy Graduate Fellowship Program is a full-time, hands-on workforce training and educational program that provides early career individuals with the opportunity to spend twelve weeks at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine in Washington, DC.
Participants will learn about science and technology policy and the role that scientists and engineers play in advising the nation. Each year, new Mirzayan Fellows join a National Academies unit where they are assigned to a mentor and learn about the world of science and technology policy. New! Purposeful Teaching Faculty Fellowship Application Now Open
In this collaboration between the Emory Purpose Project and the Center for Faculty Development (CFDE) and Excellence, full-time faculty are encouraged to apply to the Purposeful Teaching Fellowship. This is an opportunity for faculty to consider what it means for students to flourish in a course and develop concrete strategies to promote this.
