This is an opportunity to connect directly with the Dean, share feedback, discuss ideas, or raise questions about the graduate school experience.
Office hours will be held in the Laney Graduate School administrative offices, located in the North Decatur Building, Suite 200.
No appointment is necessary, individual appointments will be scheduled on a first come, first served basis.

Doctoral Stipend Update
The LGS doctoral student stipend will increase for the upcoming 2025-2026 academic year. Doctoral students should expect to see this change reflected in the September 30 paycheck.
- Business PhD program: $41,612
- BME PhD program: $40,040
- All other PhD programs (i.e., LGS base stipend): $40,324

LGS is offering an opportunity for the academic community to share experiences and concerns about recent policy shifts and their impact on graduate education with the LGS Leadership Team.

Silencing Imposter Syndrome and Building Resilience Panel
Join us for an informal panel about silencing imposter syndrome and building resilience. Panelists include LGS's own, Amanda Marie James, PhD, chief diversity officer and associate dean of diversity, inclusion, and community engagement, David Jacho-Chavez, PhD, professor and associate chair of economics at Emory, and Nael McCarty, PhD, Marcus Professor of Cystic Fibrosis at Emory School of Medicine, and director of the Emory+Children’s Cystic Fibrosis Center of Excellence.
Each panelist will share their personal strategies for overcoming imposter syndrome and building resilience. They will also offer insights on the skills they wish they had acquired before starting graduate school.

Undergraduate Research Programs Recruiting Graduate Student Reviewers for SURE Program
Graduate student researchers are encouraged to apply for an opportunity to join the review committee for this year’s Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) application cycle.
The SURE committee helps shape the future of undergraduate research at Emory University by reviewing the applications and two page project proposals undergraduates hope to pursue. After completion of required-FERPA training, reviewers are assigned applications within their discipline and provide feedback for undergraduate applicants.

The LGS Graduate Writing Group provides an opportunity to focus on writing in a structured and supportive environment. Whether you're drafting a paper, reading source materials, or working on tables and figures, the writing group offers both in-person and online options to help you stay on track and make significant progress.
The writing group will include:
- Writing sprints to advance your projects – including drafting, reading, outlining or refining tables/figures
- Option to receive feedback from an Emory Writing Center Fellow or English Language Specialist

Campus Life’s Student Intervention Services is seeking new responders to join the SIS team. Students who are second-year graduate students and beyond are encouraged to apply.
The SIS Crisis On-Call Team is staffed 24/7 and responds to students’ active crises. Compensation is provided and SIS Team Responders receive ongoing training and support.

SIRE Fellowship for Natural Sciences
With joint funding from the Laney Graduate School and the Dean’s Office of Emory College of Arts and Sciences, Emory College’s Office for Undergraduate Education will award up to three graduate student fellowships to advanced graduate students in the natural sciences.
Fellowship duration: September 1, 2025 - August 31, 2026
Compensation: $8,000 stipend for 12-months
Extended deadline: Friday, Feb. 28, 2025

Tax Support for International Students
Emory’s International Student and Scholars office provides several resources to help international students and scholars file their taxes before the Tuesday, April 15 deadline:
- ISSS Taxes webpage: While ISSS staff are not tax experts, they have created a dedicated webpage with helpful information.
- Tax Preparation Software: Emory offers access to Sprintax, a tax preparation software for international students and scholars.
- Free Tax Webinars: Sprintax also hosts free webinars covering topics such as filing requirements for non-residents, necessary forms, and more. Details will be posted in the "Get Help" section of the ISSS Taxes webpage when available.
